I am happy to see a snow-covered ground outside this morning, but especially excited because one of my passengers was really hopeful for snow. She was a 26-year old girl from India who has never seen snow and for her it is a first! I however did not share her sentiment as snow makes me think crazy roads, wet boots, cold feet, possible school closings. I love a snow once a season but I have been enjoying the not so cold temperatures this winter too. However when she told me she had never seen snow, I imagined myself gazing out my window, eyes wide open like a child on Christmas morning, looking at the snow. I could feel her excitement, and my sentiment changed! I wanted it to snow for her, and this morning I awoke I thought about my passenger and felt elated!
A curious mind, a beginner’s mind, an open-mind, a mind willing to receive the new is a beautiful thing. Sometimes we have no choice but to return to a beginner’s mind when we are about to learn something new, but other times we have to put what we think we know or our preconceived notions about something aside in order to open up to new information. Being open allows us to learn something new, maybe offering us a nervous perspective allowing us to alter our perception. It was the story of my passenger that allowed me to have a beginner’s mind with the snow.
If we can look to each day with a beginner’s mind, each and every day, each moment, each encounter, each experience … I wonder how our lives would change, maybe for the better? I sure woke up happy today!
Find your light…over and over and over again!
